Introduction
By 2025, Qonto aims to become the indisputable pan-European champion of the SME finance solution space. To achieve this ambitious goal, Qonto has been transitioning into an all-in-one business finances app designed to cater to all SMEs in Europe. This evolution has necessitated not only enhancements to our core business banking products but also the introduction of new features like Invoice Management and Expense Management. This growth, while beneficial, has increased the complexity of the Qonto app, making navigation less intuitive and potentially hindering user experience and in-app upsell opportunities.
Problem Statement
As Qonto expanded its feature set, the app's navigation did not evolve accordingly. Originally designed when Qonto was primarily a banking app, the navigation system struggled to support the new, more complex structure. This misalignment led to challenges in feature discoverability, user accessibility, and systematic in-app upsell flow. Thus, a new navigation system was essential to align with Qonto’s vision of an all-in-one finance solution for SMEs and to support future product expansions seamlessly.
Objectives
- Improve User Experience (UX): Enhance the accessibility and discoverability of features for existing users.
- Support Future Growth: Create a scalable navigation system that can accommodate new features and products as Qonto grows.
- Facilitate In-App Upsell: Design the navigation to systematically highlight higher plan features and prompt upgrades.
- Consistency Across Platforms: Ensure the new navigation system is consistent and seamless across both web and mobile platforms.
Solution: Dual-Menu Navigation System
To address these challenges, we introduced a Dual-Menu Navigation System. This system was designed to meet the following key points:
- One Navigation for All: A single navigation system that caters to all roles, plans, countries, and languages, reducing build and maintenance costs.
- Dual-Nav "Left-Left": A dual navigation structure that allows easy access to all sections and features of the Qonto app, always visible and ready for future enhancements.
- User-Centric Design: The navigation is structured to reflect how Finance Managers and CFOs expect to interact with the app, emphasizing both banking and productivity tools.
- Promote Discoverability: Features "new", "just updated", and "coming soon" highlights to foster discoverability and user engagement.
- Encourage Upsell: Implements a "locker" pattern to showcase features available in higher plans, encouraging users to upgrade.
- Innovative Interaction: Introduces a "Task" section to centralize all actionable items, ensuring no tasks are overlooked.
